About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater St. Joseph

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater St. Joseph serves as a satellite program to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has been in existence for over 100 years and in Kansas City for over 40.

Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children from one-parent or non-traditional households with caring, adult mentors in a one-to-one friendship.  They spend a couple hours a week together doing normal, everyday activities like watching a movie or walking the dog.  By simply spending time together the statistics show that kids lead more productive lives by having someone other than their parent to talk to. 

In fact, 84% of kids reported improved self esteem, 56% received better grades after being matched, and 96% said they felt they could talk to their “Big” about their problems.
