Kauffman Scholars
As a Kauffman Scholar and a high school student, you have worked hard to get where you are today. These days, you are probably busy with school, activities and planning for your future; but you need to have fun too. Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to offer you the opportunity to have someone to talk to about all of these exciting – yet sometimes overwhelming – experiences you are encountering by offering you a mentor, or what we call a Big Brother or Big Sister.
As a participant in this program, Big Brothers Big Sisters will match you with a fun, adult friend who will be there for you during this busy time in your life and to help you along the way. Big Brothers and Big Sisters, or "Bigs," are typically college - educated professionals ages 21 and older. The majority of these "Bigs" are emerging leaders in their organizations. They are excited about helping you enjoy your high school experience and helping you make some of the difficult choices that come up along the way. Some of the many things a Big can help you with include:
- Exploring your major and career aspirations
- Attending college visits with you
- Helping you study for an upcoming exam
- Preparing you for what to expect at college
- Networking and job shadowing opportunities
- Helping you deal with the pressure of school and friends
- Just being a postive, adult role model that you can talk to
- Hanging out and having fun
Having a Big Brother or Big Sister will help you as you prepare for the rest of your life. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s just another friend.
